SFC has established partnerships with after school service providers and community organizations to support youth gardening and healthy cooking projects at schools and in their neighborhoods. Students, along with their families, learn about a healthy and sustainable food system and share these lessons with other youth through our peer-to-peer training program.

The Sprouting Healthy Kids afterschool program features a twenty-four week activity guide that follows the growing cycle of the school garden and offers comprehensive food-systems lessons through professionally developed, kid-tested activities. All activities include hands-on gardening or cooking for young people, plus visits from area farmers and chefs throughout the year and opportunities for field trips to farms, farmers' markets, and food pantries.

In support of the afterschool program, Sustainable Food Center provides school partners with resources for building and maintaining gardens on school grounds, including garden structures and soil, tools, plants, seeds, and other supplies. SFC also recruits and trains qualified community members such as Master Gardeners to serve as Garden Mentors, who assist with regular garden maintenance as well as afterschool program delivery.
