Growing your own food is fun and therapeutic but sharing the food you grew with a friend in need is exhilarating. Spread the Harvest is a unique food-sharing program of Sustainable Food Center (SFC) that helps children and adults in Central Texas to grow healthy food for themselves and their families, and to share with neighbors. Each year, over 500 gardeners receive the tools and training necessary to use their gardening talents to meet personal as well as local community food needs. Some individuals qualify for benefits such as:
- Free vegetable, fruit, and herb seeds
- 1 free cubic yard of compost per year
Anyone can enjoy:
- Free admission to all SFC workshops and gardening events
- Unlimited technical assistance
- Subscription to SFC's quarterly newsletter
In order to remain active in the program, gardeners agree to track the amount of food harvested and shared from their garden and fill out a brief survey four times a year. This information is very important because it helps us gauge the impact of our services in the community.
